Lizard

Sunday Aug 31, 2008

Outcome:

Step 1

Today we are going to
learn how to make a Lizard. With this tutorial you will need some basic drawing ability. The goal in this tutorial is not to create an exact replica of the Lizard shown, but to build and harness your skills so that they can develop. Below is the color pallet that I will be using to create and color the Lizard. The first column is for the skin, it consist of an outline color, a shadow color, and a base color. The second column is for the tongue.

Step 1

Okay to start off you need to create a basic lizard frame. I recommend using a drawing tool that has a 4 pixel thickness. Be sure to taper of lines where needed as shown in my example image below.

Step 1

Now it is time to use the base color to color in the skin of the lizard. You can color it in using a fill tool directly on the image or you can create a layer beneath the outline to keep from making mistakes. I am choosing to use layers for mine. Please be aware that a program that uses layers is not important. Below is the current progress of the lizard. You can also color in the eyes as well.

Step 1

Okay now that the base
colors have been added now it is time to add the shading and
highlights. This is important because placement of shadows and
highlights can make or break a piece. You don’t have to follow
my example below; you can make this your own if you would like just
be sure to have fun an experiment that’s what art is all about.
